About CAN

A Network of Networks

Compassionate Action Network represents the power of thousands of relationships – a potential for magic that results from the chaos of a spontaneous movement, the emergent behavior of thousands of individuals, and the order and structure provided by wise and broad-based leadership.

CAN is a unifying catalyst, a hub in a movement. CAN will be able to combine and amplify the work of many individuals, organizations and programs by bringing compassion consciously into the good work they are already doing. This movement is a complex social ecology. It brings together people from highly diverse communities with varied resources, each of which occupies a unique niche within the ecology.

Even as CAN begins to grow, we will remain small, fast-moving, and largely volunteer driven. We will have a small staff of organizers, facilitators, and project managers, but most of our resources will be provided by the networks of individuals and organizations that we bring together in shared learning and shared action.

CAN is a startup. Just now, in the fall of 2008, we are conducting our first planning meetings, framing our first proposals, seeking our first funding, and outlining the resources we need to change the world – together with you and millions like you. We plan to join you, and hope you’ll join us!
